Guwahati Baptist Church was established in 1845, this building of Church 
was constructed in the year 1914, and after a major renovation in 2025. 
It is the second oldest church of undivided Assam.

I recently had the privilege of visiting the newly inaugurated Swahid Smarak Khetra- a magnificent tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation (1979-1985)
Dedicated to the 860 brave souls who sacrificed their lives to protect Assam’s identity, language, and culture.The complex beautifully preserves their legacy through bust statues and
 a gallery of historic photographs related to the Assam Movement.

The memorial was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma 
on 10th December 2025 on the occasion of the observance of Swahid Diwas.
