Glimpse of Majuli Mask Making Workshop Organised by Axomi24 The Indigenous Story
in Collaboration with Srimanta Sankaradev Kalashetra, Guwahati, Assam
The workshop conducted by Guru Shree Haren Goswami, of Sukumar Kalapeeth, Educational Institute of Arts and Crafts, Chamaguri Satra, Majuli, Assam
The Workshop was held from 15th to 21st July, 2024 at Art Village, Srimanta Sankaradev Kalashetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, Assam, India
*Mask art of Assam, Assam has a long tradition of mask making, it developed in the response to
Neo–Vaisnavism, initiated by Srimanta Sankardeva in the 15th century. These masks were developed for it to be used in the Bhaona's (Traditional drama of Assam). The art of making masks was prevalent in Satras for centuries, presently the Samaguri Satra is world-famous for its mask crafts.
Majuli masks of Assam receive the prestigious Geographical Indicator(GI) tag
for their unique cultural tradition.

...I find this to be an interesting activity. It's good to learn and continue traditions.
Those mask makers are really artists. Nice to see.
